LG Malique’s 7 Year Remix Saved Him from Hitting Rock Bottom

Pressure can do two things: bust pipes or create diamonds. LG Malique dug his way through the trenches and created diamonds.

The Arkansas/Oklahoma star is no stranger to rough times. After his mom lost her career due to a lawsuit that was later dropped, a young Malique and his siblings went broke and spent some time homeless. This was the moment he knew he had to make something happen for his family.

As the years went by, LG Malique, formerly known as Malique Andrews, would have his fair share of ups and downs. Henry started finding his footing in the music industry, gaining fans and recognition, but anytime he felt like he made it to the top of the stairs a mishap came along knocking him to the ground again.

“I was supposed to be done right now, I swear to God,” said Malique during our interview, “any artist I seen that was in my position definitely folded.”

As it does to many young and rising stars, the industry took advantage of the Seven Years rapper early. A behind the back trademark forced him to change his name and locked him in a rough deal. Eventually he made his way out of that deal only for him to find himself in another messed up situation; one that put him on the verge of hitting rock bottom once again.

LG Malique and his girlfriend were “a knock away from getting [their] sh*t put on the curb” when one of his people suggested remixing Lukas Graham’s classic, 7 Years. He listened. The decision to listen turned into a huge blessing when the song blew up all over social media, eventually reaching Lukas Graham himself.

“Your lyrics on that song are amazing,” Lukas told Malique during a FaceTime call. The two later met up in Vegas to record the official remix. The song was released as LG Malique’s first official single under Warner. Since dropping his version, he’s garnered over 4 million views on YouTube, millions of views across social media, and his streaming numbers are on a level he’s never seen before.

Before you give up on yourself, keep pushing.
