Legendary west coast producer and artist, DJ Quik, took to Twitter earlier to get some thoughts off his chest. He tweeted that he believed he should be where Dr. Dre is, and that the reason he isn’t is because he’s never had a machine behind him.

The Compton producer’s career has been full of work with major artists including Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Tony! Toni! Toné! and dozens more; but notoriety doesn’t always equate to the work put in or the talent of an individual. Often times, it’s about an image or a story that can be easily monetized.

With that being said, this takes nothing away Dr. Dre who is a global icon and secured his spot in history as one of Hiphop’s greatest producers and businessmen of all time. DJ Quik explained that his Twitter rant was not a meltdown, or out of hate, but only a neutral way to express what he believes.

Many fans who experienced Quik in his prime agree with his statements and appreciate his dedication to being himself and not worrying the mainstream.
